A new initiative to boost tourism in Murree is underway, focusing on expanding the main highway that connects Rawalpindi, Murree, and Kashmir. With a budget of approximately Rs. 1.2 billion, the project involves constructing a 17-kilometer stretch of road from Rawalpindi to Sunny Bank in Murree.
Tenders for the construction work have been issued through the e-tender platform, with an application deadline set for August 17. As part of the annual development program (ADP), the road will be constructed in phases over six months, with work commencing from both ends simultaneously.
To enhance the natural environment, the project includes plans to plant trees along the road, featuring fruit trees, native pine trees, and plants that reflect the Pothohar region’s cultural heritage. Additionally, rest areas will be created along the road for travelers, and solar-powered street lighting will be installed to provide energy-efficient illumination.
