The Federal Government, in collaboration with the Government of Punjab, is set to organize the National Citrus Festival on January 18th and 19th in Sargodha. Hosted by the Federal National Heritage and Culture Division, this festival aims to highlight the economic and agricultural significance of citrus cultivation.
Sargodha, recognized as the Citrus Capital of Pakistan, not only represents the nation’s diverse citrus heritage but also contributes to 80 percent of the country’s citrus production.
With Pakistan’s total citrus production reaching 2.8 million tons this season, a significant increase from the previous year’s 1.3 million tons, the festival will serve as a platform to showcase the country’s citrus prowess. Pakistan exports citrus to various international markets, including Canada, the UK, Ukraine, Russia, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and several other countries.
Expected to be attended by federal and provincial dignitaries, including the Minister of Culture and Heritage, caretaker CM Punjab, and Ambassadors from different nations, the festival aims to attract visitors nationwide, fostering national unity through shared cultural experiences. It will provide a valuable platform for businesses, farmers, and artisans to exhibit and sell citrus-related products, contributing to economic growth and national resilience.
Moreover, the festival aligns with the government’s objective to educate the public on citrus farming techniques, nutritional benefits, and sustainable agricultural practices. This initiative reinforces a collective commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility, promoting a more cohesive and informed society.
