The Sindh government has initiated a new phase of recruitment to provide jobs to the children of provincial employees who passed away while still in service, following recent directives from the superior judiciary.
The move comes after the Supreme Court ordered the reinstatement of the death quota policy, which had earlier been discontinued by the provincial government. The policy reserves certain government posts for the dependents of public servants who die during service, with the aim of supporting families that suddenly lose their main source of income.
In compliance with the court’s instructions, the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department (SGA&CD) has issued notices to all provincial departments, directing them to compile and submit details of posts earmarked under the death quota by tomorrow. Officials have been told to ensure that pending appointments are processed promptly and without unnecessary delays.
Letters have been circulated to senior officials, including:
- The heads of the Planning and Development Board
- The Board of Revenue
- The Chief Minister’s Inquiry and Inspection Team
Similar instructions have been sent to the Anti-Corruption Establishment, secretaries of all provincial ministries, and the offices of both the governor and the chief minister.
Divisional commissioners across Sindh have also been directed to gather and forward the relevant information from their respective jurisdictions so that a consolidated list of available posts can be prepared.
Officials say the renewed implementation of the death quota is aimed at providing immediate employment opportunities to eligible sons and daughters of deceased government employees, helping stabilise households that face financial hardship after the loss of a breadwinner.
