Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has formally launched the second phase of the Lahore Development Plan, announcing a major push to upgrade thousands of streets across the provincial capital.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, Phase II of the plan will focus on the rehabilitation and upgradation of 6,284 streets in Lahore. The work has been divided between key urban service agencies to streamline implementation and monitoring.
Under the plan, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) will upgrade 486 streets, mainly in areas where drainage, sewerage, and water-related issues are more pressing. The Lahore Municipal Corporation (LMC) has been tasked with improving 5,798 streets, which will largely include patchwork, carpeting, and related infrastructure upgrades.
Officials briefed the chief minister during a dedicated review meeting on Phase II of the development plan. During the session, a month-by-month implementation schedule was presented, detailing how different neighbourhoods will be taken up to ensure consistent progress across the city rather than isolated, scattered works.
Maryam Nawaz directed all departments to maintain strict quality standards and complete the work within the stipulated timelines. She stressed that delays would not be tolerated and that each phase of construction must be monitored to ensure that public money is used efficiently and transparently.
The chief minister noted that the goal of the initiative is not only to repair roads but to improve the overall appearance, safety, and liveability of Lahore. She added that residents in every part of the city should see visible improvements in their streets under this phase, ranging from smoother carriageways and better drainage to cleaner, more organised neighbourhood environments.
The Lahore Development Plan is part of the provincial government’s broader urban renewal agenda, with a focus on improving basic infrastructure, reducing everyday inconvenience for citizens, and modernising services in line with the city’s growing population and needs.
