Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Khan Gandapur has announced plans to establish an internationally recognized cybersecurity institute in Peshawar, aimed at advancing Information and Communication Technology within the province. The initiative aims to provide comprehensive cybersecurity education facilities to youth.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by the chief minister, attended by Provincial Minister for Higher Education Meena Khan Afridi, along with officials from the Higher Education and Science, Technology & Information Technology departments, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board, and National Center for Cybersecurity.
The meeting concluded that the cybersecurity institute will be housed in an existing government building, offering Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD programs in cybersecurity. The chief minister instructed the departments to finalize the institute’s modalities and present viable proposals for formal approval.
Chief Minister Gandapur emphasized the urgency of establishing a specialized cybersecurity institute in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, underscoring the provincial government’s commitment to allocate necessary resources promptly. He highlighted the potential of the information technology sector and pledged to expand such institutes to divisional headquarters in the future.
Gandapur reaffirmed the government’s dedication to providing modern IT education and employment opportunities to youth at national and international levels, citing the province’s abundant talent. He also addressed improvements in law and order and economic initiatives, stressing the province’s rightful share of hydel profits and addressing electricity issues with federal authorities.
