During the Pakistan Spotlight Day at the WEF – Edison Alliance event, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, the Caretaker Federal Minister for Finance, Revenue, and Economic Affairs, highlighted the impactful outcomes of the Asaan Mobile Account (AMA) initiative.
This effort led to the establishment of 8.5 million new bank accounts, including 3.2 million for women. Dr. Akhtar also underscored the role of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) in extending financial assistance to 8 million families through digital payments.
In acknowledging the success of the 1 Billion Lives Challenge, which focuses on enhancing digital inclusion for the unbanked in developing countries, Dr. Akhtar congratulated the Alliance and stressed the need to make digital technology more accessible and cost-effective for developing nations.
Moreover, the finance minister emphasized the importance of replicating successful Alliance initiatives in vital sectors like healthcare, education, and finance across diverse developing economies.
