In a major step toward academic excellence and international competitiveness, the OIC Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) held a successful International Workshop on Quality Assurance and University Rankings in Islamabad. The event, attended by more than 500 participants from 27 countries and over 300 academic institutions, marked a defining moment in collaborative higher education reform across the Muslim world.
Prominent attendees included vice chancellors, Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) directors, and global education experts. The workshop served as a vital platform to discuss the role of quality assurance (QA) in improving university performance, academic credibility, and placement in international rankings.
Prof. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of COMSTECH, stressed the pivotal role QA plays in institutional excellence:
“This gathering reflects our shared commitment to raising the quality and international standing of higher education within the OIC region.”
The discussions emphasized aligning OIC countries with global benchmarks, promoting sustainable academic development, and improving institutional accountability. Speakers underscored the value of mutual cooperation among OIC nations to elevate educational integrity and research impact across borders.
This landmark event signals a renewed push to standardize academic quality frameworks, empower universities with performance metrics, and drive policy-level changes in the higher education sector across OIC member states.
