The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) has deployed additional sanitary workers to clean and dredge major drains in the city to prevent urban flooding. According to an RWMC spokesman, the company is making every effort to keep the city clear of potential issues by focusing on the cleanliness of nullahs and choked drains during ongoing intermittent rainfall.
Additional staff has been assigned to work in three shifts, ensuring round-the-clock cleanliness to prevent sanitation-related problems from disrupting the smooth flow of water. Complaints received through social media are also being promptly addressed.
In parallel, RWMC’s communication teams are actively conducting an anti-dengue awareness campaign across the city. The campaign aims to educate the public about the growth, spread, treatment, and prevention of dengue. The teams are distributing waste bags and informational leaflets while emphasizing the importance of cleanliness in dengue prevention.
RWMC has urged citizens to monitor junkyards, schools, and under-construction buildings to prevent the spread of dengue larvae and to ensure no place remains wet or with stagnant water. Citizens are encouraged to report any complaints to the helpline number 1139 for immediate resolution. The RWMC also appealed to the public not to dispose of garbage or plastic bags in nullahs and drains, which can cause blockages.
