Waseem Khatri of Pakistan has made an outstanding start at the Scrabble Players Championship (formerly known as the North American Scrabble Championship) in South Bend, USA.
At the halfway point of the four-day championship, Waseem is leading the pack with 11 wins and a spread of 1095. Alec Sjoholm of the USA is in second place, while Joshua Castallano of Canada is in third, according to a press release.
Another Pakistani player, former world youth champion Moiz Baig, has returned to competitive scrabble after a year-long hiatus and is in excellent form, currently in fourth place ahead of many seasoned players.
Waseem, who was the runner-up at the 2022 championship, is averaging an impressive 487 points per game, the highest among all competitors.
The two young Pakistani players are competing in the top division alongside some of the best scrabble players in the world. The field includes a former world champion, a former world youth champion, five former North American champions, one Canadian champion, and one British champion.
