The Awami National Party (ANP) solemnly remembered and honored its late leader, Haroon Bilour, who tragically lost his life to terrorism during a campaign event in Peshawar on July 10, 2018. Mian Iftikhar Hussain, ANP’s provincial president, emphasized Bilour’s unwavering commitment to the cause of Pakhtun rights and peace. He praised Bilour’s resilience and bravery in confronting forces that sought to suppress the voice of the Pakhtun community, echoing the principles of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, known as Bacha Khan.
Hussain highlighted the Bilour family’s enduring legacy of sacrifice and dedication to the ANP’s mission despite facing immense challenges. He recalled the contributions of Haroon Bilour’s father, Bashir Ahmad Bilour, who also laid down his life in the fight against extremism, yet remained steadfast in his principles. Starting his political journey with the Pashtun Student Federation (PkSF), Haroon Bilour played a pivotal role in advocating for the party’s manifesto among students and academia.
Despite the tragedies faced by the Bilour family, Hussain affirmed that ANP activists remain resolute in continuing their struggle for justice and peace in the province. He reiterated the party’s unwavering commitment to upholding the rights of Pakhtuns and ensuring their representation in the socio-political landscape of Pakistan. The ANP, under Hussain’s leadership, pledged to honor the legacy of Haroon Bilour and others who sacrificed their lives for the betterment of the community, striving tirelessly towards a peaceful and prosperous future for all.
