LAHORE – Punjab government has introduced free transport facilities for the people with disability in a major attempt at inclusivity. The initiative includes two new services, Orange Line train and Metro Bus in which passengers carrying a ‘Himmat Card,’ an identity card issued as a proof of disability will get free travel.
The service is available all days, and therefore public transportation facility can be provided easily accessible to the disabled. To get this facility, a passenger must come to the ticketing counter with a Himmat Card.
This is part of the provincial government’s efforts to increase accessibility. In addition to free travel for the disabled, the government has also introduced reduced fares for the elderly and students to make public transport more affordable.
The newly launched Orange Line BRT in Karachi also offers an affordable fixed fare of Rs 20, further enhancing travel options for citizens.
