HARIPUR: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Wednesday that the government will send Pakistani students abroad for specialized training in artificial intelligence (AI), with placements planned in Europe and China.
The prime minister made the announcement while addressing a ceremony at the University of Haripur, where laptops were distributed under the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme. He emphasized that students from all provinces, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, will be selected strictly on merit.
The ceremony was attended by government officials, youth representatives, and students, and formally marked the launch of the laptop scheme, which has already benefited more than one million students across the country.
Highlighting the government’s education and youth development strategy, the prime minister said national progress depends on balanced development across all regions. He stressed the importance of nurturing talent nationwide and recalled earlier student-focused initiatives launched during his tenure as chief minister of Punjab, including agricultural training and overseas education programs.
Addressing local demands, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also announced plans to establish a Daanish School in Haripur, modeled on similar institutions in Punjab, with separate campuses for boys and girls to ensure inclusive access to quality education.
In addition, he approved the establishment of a women’s campus at the University of Haripur and directed authorities to expedite the process to make it operational at the earliest.
