In a gesture of solidarity, Pakistan has decided to rename one of its major highways in Islamabad to ‘Iran Avenue’ just before the scheduled visit of Iranian President Seyyed Ibrahim Raisi. The renaming of Eleventh Avenue to Iran Avenue comes as a symbol of the strong bond between the two nations and underscores Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its ties with Iran.
The decision, which was officially ratified by the cabinet following a proposal by the Capital Development Authority (CDA), holds significance as it coincides with President Raisi’s visit to Pakistan. This visit, the first by any head-of-state after Pakistan’s general elections, is poised to pave the way for enhanced cooperation and collaboration between the two neighboring countries.
Eleventh Avenue, a prominent thoroughfare in Islamabad, will now get the name of Iran Avenue, symbolizing the deep-rooted historical and cultural connections between Pakistan and Iran. The avenue, stretching from Sector D-12 to the northeast corner of E-11, serves as a vital artery in the capital city’s infrastructure, facilitating smooth traffic flow and connectivity.
The renaming of the avenue reflects Pakistan’s commitment to fostering stronger diplomatic ties with Iran, as President Raisi arrives in Islamabad accompanied by a high-level delegation. During his three-day state visit, President Raisi is scheduled to hold meetings with key Pakistani leaders, including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Senate Chairman Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
