The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has announced that all Islamabad model schools and colleges will establish free textbook book banks starting from the 2026–27 academic year. The initiative is aimed at making education more affordable, addressing textbook shortages, and encouraging a culture of responsibility among students.
Under the new system, textbooks provided by the government will be distributed on time, and students will be required to return them in good condition at the end of the school year, before final exam results are announced. These books will then be collected, organized, and redistributed to the next batch of students free of cost.
School administrations will create clear SOPs for collecting and categorizing the books, with Area Education Officers supervising the process to ensure transparency and efficiency. Officials emphasized that the policy will reduce financial burdens on parents, cut down on paper waste, and foster environmental sustainability.
By promoting the reuse of textbooks, the FDE hopes to strengthen resource management while instilling values of sharing and care among students. This reform marks a significant step forward in making Islamabad’s education system more equitable and eco-conscious.
