The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Pakistan have once again underscored their shared commitment to strengthening their long-standing strategic partnership. This renewed focus highlights the growing collaboration between the two nations in various key sectors.
Bilateral Talks Focus on Expanding Cooperation
UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, recently visited Islamabad to hold high-level discussions with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The talks centered around boosting trade, investment, energy cooperation, and regional security, reaffirming both countries’ resolve to deepen their ties.
Economic Growth on the Horizon
In recent years, Pakistan-UAE trade has seen significant growth, with bilateral trade reaching over $10.9 billion in 2023-24. This increase is backed by major agreements signed earlier in 2024, totaling more than $3 billion, aimed at advancing infrastructure projects like railways, special economic zones, and port development.
Strong Economic Interdependence
The Pakistani community in the UAE plays a crucial role in the economic relationship between the two nations. In 2024, remittances from Pakistanis living in the UAE hit $6.7 billion, and this figure is expected to exceed $7 billion by 2025. Additionally, the UAE has committed to investing $10 billion in Pakistan, further solidifying their economic partnership.
Enhancing Cultural and Consular Relations
As part of their ongoing efforts to strengthen ties, both countries signed several agreements, including the creation of a Joint Consular Affairs Committee and a Joint Business Council. The two nations also agreed to boost cultural exchanges, aiming to foster deeper people-to-people connections.
Continued Commitment from Leadership
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and UAE’s Sheikh Abdullah both emphasized the importance of transforming their strong political relationship into tangible economic results. Their continued collaboration sets the stage for a future built on mutual respect and shared goals.
