Google has announced the launch of a groundbreaking program called ‘Digital Sahafat,’ aimed at enhancing the digital journalism skills of 1,000 Pakistani journalists. This initiative, launched in collaboration with the local social enterprise Tech Valley, is part of Google’s broader effort to support journalism through the Google News Initiative (GNI).
The ‘Digital Sahafat’ program will provide Pakistani journalists with cutting-edge tools, training, and resources, enabling them to create accurate and compelling digital content. Since 2018, the GNI has been working with thousands of news organizations in over 100 countries to strengthen journalism worldwide.
“We’re very excited to announce the launch of Digital Sahafat, a program by the Google News Initiative, in partnership with Tech Valley, to equip 1,000 journalists in Pakistan with the essential tools, training, and resources to produce accurate and engaging digital news stories,” the GNI said in a statement.
The official launch event for the ‘Digital Sahafat’ program is scheduled for September 4 in Islamabad. The event will feature addresses by Kate Beddoe, Managing Director of Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC) News Partnerships at Google, and representatives from Tech Valley.
Tech Valley, established in 2015, aims to bridge the gap between Pakistan’s public and private sectors by fostering innovation and promoting technology across academia, industry, and government. This partnership with Google reflects a continued commitment to supporting journalism and digital innovation globally.
