On Sunday, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved the introduction of foreign language courses—including Korean, Japanese, German, Chinese, and Arabic—at Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) institutes. During a meeting to finalize the TEVTA Mapping Plan, she underscored the importance of innovative technical training to drive economic growth and reduce unemployment.
The Chief Minister highlighted the need for advanced, market-driven courses in areas such as building, textiles, garments, tourism, hospitality, ICT, automobile repair, food processing, biomedical technology, light engineering, renewable energy, and surgical instruments. She called for partnerships with leading industries to support internships, apprenticeships, and job placements.
Maryam Nawaz also approved the creation of the Punjab Overseas Employment Promotion Authority to enhance skilled job opportunities internationally and endorsed outsourcing the ‘Heavy Machinery Driving/Operator Course’ in collaboration with large-scale construction developers.
Additionally, she sanctioned the construction of 45 new welding workshops across nine cities and state-of-the-art labs in Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Multan, Attock, Taxila, Layyah, and Mianwali. To address the human resource shortage, 1,000 new employees will be recruited, and the monthly budget for training materials will be increased to Rs 2,000 per student. She also directed the implementation of biometric attendance for teachers.
