The Capital Development Authority (CDA) launched a large-scale tree plantation drive on Margalla Hills, aiming to plant one million trees. Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and the Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, initiated the campaign by planting saplings near Trail 3.
During the ceremony, the Information Minister emphasized the collective responsibility of citizens and the government to protect Margalla Hills, noting that Islamabad’s air quality is superior to other cities. He highlighted the importance of confronting climate change through extensive tree planting and encouraged all societal segments to participate actively in such campaigns to ensure a better future for coming generations.
Mr. Tarar pointed out that while Pakistan contributes only two percent to global carbon emissions, it is one of the most affected countries by climate change. Hence, countries with high carbon emissions should collaborate with Pakistan to tackle this challenge.
Romina Khurshid Alam echoed the importance of tree planting and called for coordinated efforts to make these campaigns successful. CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa expressed gratitude to the officials for their support and mentioned that the CDA had secured pledges for planting four million trees from the corporate sector and civil society, with one million trees already arranged by the authority.
