Zong, Pakistan’s leading telecom operator, has launched an extensive network expansion in Gilgit Baltistan (GB), introducing high-speed 4G services across more than 15 cities. This marks the largest-ever network expansion in the region, with seamless coverage now live in key cities like Gilgit, Hunza, and Skardu, and further rollouts planned.
This initiative reflects Zong’s commitment to delivering affordable, high-quality 4G connectivity across Pakistan. The expansion is set to boost digitalization, enhance livelihoods, and accelerate data connectivity throughout the broader Gilgit Baltistan region. As part of this effort, 59 new 4G sites are being rolled out, ensuring residents in cities like Gilgit, Astore, Skardu, and Hunza have access to reliable network services.
The expanded 4G coverage will benefit not only the local population but also the growing number of local and international tourists who visit Gilgit Baltistan each year. This achievement has been made possible through Zong’s strategic partnership with the Special Communications Organization (SCO), which enables the sharing of essential network resources to ensure these services remain accessible and affordable.
Zong’s CEO emphasized the significance of this expansion, stating, “Ensuring 4G availability in GB marks a significant step in our mission to provide excellent products and services and enable digitalization in Pakistan. Zong 4G connectivity not only meets the connectivity needs of local communities but also opens new opportunities for businesses, tourism, and education in these areas. This development has been a challenging job in such remote areas and harsh conditions, and I commend all the hardworking people involved.”
