The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) set a new record when it installed the world’s highest ATM. The ATM was put up at the Pakistan-China border at the Khunjerab pass, which is 15,397 feet above sea level. The bank intended to demonstrate their abilities by installing the ATM at the greatest possible altitude as part of the bank’s Green drive.
The ATM is powered by solar panels and a wind turbine. It is located at the commencement of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, a popular tourist destination, and visitors are often the primary users of the ATM. It is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and receives additional attention throughout the winter when temperatures fall below freezing.
The adjacent branch located in Sost City maintains and monitors the ATM 24 hours a day. It was erected on September 6, 2016. On November 18, 2016, it received the Guinness Book of Records title. The Union Bank of India initially claimed the title of highest ATM, having erected one at Nathu-La pass in 2007. The pass is a centuries-old mountain pass located along the Silk Road, approximately 14,300 feet above sea level in the Kupup area.
