Islamabad, July 2025: In a landmark development for Pakistani nationals, the United Kingdom has launched its digital visa (eVisa) system for applicants from Pakistan under various educational and employment categories. This move, set to replace traditional paper-based visa stickers, went live this month and is part of the UK government’s broader plan to digitize immigration services.
According to the UK Home Office, most students and skilled workers applying for UK visas will now receive an eVisa—a digital proof of their immigration status—accessible through the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account.
“This is a major step in simplifying the visa process,” said Jane Marriott CMG OBE, British High Commissioner to Pakistan. “eVisas offer faster access, reduce administrative burdens, and give applicants the flexibility to retain their passports.”
Who Is Eligible?
This phase includes:
- Student Visas (including short-term study)
- Skilled Worker & Health and Care routes
- Global Talent
- Youth Mobility Scheme
- Global Business Mobility categories
- Temporary Work routes (Religious, Creative, Exchange)
The eVisa will allow Pakistani applicants to securely share their status with universities, employers, and landlords through a simple “view and prove” system.
Why It Matters:
Pakistanis applying for study or work visas are among the UK’s largest applicant groups globally. The new system brings:
- Reduced paperwork
- Enhanced security
- Less risk of lost/stolen documents
- Eco-friendly transition away from printed stickers
Looking Ahead:
Although eVisas currently apply to primary applicants in select categories, the UK plans a full transition across all visa routes in the coming years. Existing visa holders are not required to switch, and those applying under family or general visitor categories will still receive physical documents—for now.
This policy shift reflects the UK’s commitment to modernizing immigration, while ensuring Pakistan’s youth and workforce can engage with the world through safer, smarter mobility options.
