In the fiscal year 2022-23 (FY23), Pakistan’s telecom sector demonstrated robust performance, generating revenues of Rs. 850 billion, marking a notable 17 percent growth amid economic challenges.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) presented its annual report for 2023 to Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar, highlighting the sector’s resilience and positive impact on the nation’s economic landscape.
PTA Chairman Major General (Retired) Hafeez-ur-Rehman conveyed that Pakistan achieved an exceptional 90 percent accessibility to mobile services nationwide. This accomplishment ensures connectivity even in remote areas, extending the benefits of communication across the entire country.
The report unveiled substantial growth in user base figures, with the mobile phone user count reaching 192 million. Additionally, the number of high-speed broadband users witnessed an impressive surge, reaching 130 million.
Caretaker Prime Minister Kakar commended the PTA chairman and the team for their dedication to narrowing the digital divide. He acknowledged the positive influence of PTA’s initiatives, emphasizing the pivotal role of technology in propelling socio-economic development.
The chairman shared insights into forthcoming initiatives focused on expanding mobile and internet services to reach a broader audience. The aim is to integrate digital connectivity into everyday life, contributing to the overall progress and development of the nation.
