Team In Flames, continues its impressive streak, securing the esteemed title of Best Competition Film at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah. The film, crafted by writer and director Zarrar Kahn, clinched the Yusr Award for the best competition film at the festival’s third edition.
Having premiered at the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight earlier in the year, In Flames unravels its narrative in the heart of Karachi. The story delves into the upheaval faced by a mother and daughter following the demise of their family’s patriarch, disrupted by entities from their history, both tangible and spectral. Their bond emerges as their sole defense against the looming dark forces.
Tarsem Singh’s modern-day tragic drama, Dear Jassi, earned the Silver Yusr award for Best Feature at the festival. Notably, the film premiered in Toronto, where it secured the 2023 Platform Prize.
The prestigious accolade from the Red Sea International Film Festival adds to In Flames’ growing list of achievements, having already received acclaim at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, and the Busan International Film Festival. In Flames, featuring Ramesha Nawal, Bakhtawar Mazhar, Mohammad Ali Hashmi, Adnan Shah Tipu, and Omar Javaid, serves as Pakistan’s official submission for the Academy Awards, contending for the International Feature Oscar.
Although absent at the film festival, Zarrar Kahn expressed his joy at the achievement through a video shared on social media.
