The Punjab government has announced a major public relief initiative aimed at helping citizens cope with rising inflation by launching new Sahulat Bazaars across the province.
According to officials, the new markets will become operational from July 1 as part of the upcoming fiscal year. The initiative will cover 27 cities in Punjab, where residents will be able to purchase daily-use food items, fruits, and vegetables at prices significantly lower than open market rates.
In addition to the permanent markets, authorities are also planning to introduce 13 mobile “Sahulat on the Go” bazaars in selected districts. These mobile units are expected to improve access to affordable food items in areas where traditional markets are less accessible.
Officials stated that fruits and vegetables will be offered at reduced prices compared to both open market prices and official rates. To further facilitate the public, the government also plans to provide free home delivery services within a five-kilometre radius of the bazaars.
Punjab authorities have directed deputy commissioners across the province to complete all necessary arrangements before June 30 to ensure the smooth launch of the relief project.
The initiative is being viewed as part of broader efforts to control the impact of inflation and improve access to essential commodities for the public amid increasing economic pressure.
