In a significant stride toward bolstering road safety, the Punjab Safe City Authority has unveiled cutting-edge artificial intelligence software. The AI system is designed to identify motorcyclists without helmets, as disclosed by the authority on its social media platforms last Thursday.
Notably, last year, the interim government substantially increased fines for helmet-less motorcyclists from Rs. 200 to Rs. 2,000 across the province. Recently, Chief Traffic Officer Ammara Athar directed wardens to escalate efforts in cracking down on traffic violations in the provincial capital.
The traffic police department spokesperson reported over 16,000 motorcyclists fined for helmet violations, 264 drivers penalized for underage driving, and 1,635 vehicles impounded for emitting smoke.
