Lahore – Punjab government has issued a statement that it has decided to outsource BHUs throughout the province, in an effort to make healthcare services better. “The department will begin its new initiative with 150 BHUs,” says the report on 24NewsHD TV.
This first phase will see the 100 units operating within normal hours, while the other 50 will be working round the clock. This is for the improvement of health service efficiency and accessibility in resource-poor areas or where continuous service is deemed necessary.
This will, for the first time, be implemented in Lahore, and by the first phase, this project will outsource its eight BHUs. It is also supported with the annual budget of the government to maintain each unit at Rs 500,000 so that the overall quality is maintained everywhere across the health units.
BHU outsourcing will benefit the government of Punjab as it addresses the increasing healthcare demands by providing better services to its communities. It is, in fact, a further step towards an overall strategy of maximizing the efficient usage of healthcare resources, thereby improving service delivery quality while encouraging public-private partnerships for key public services.
