The Punjab government has decided to fully digitize all toll plazas across the province, replacing the traditional paper-based receipt system with a modern electronic model to ensure transparency and smoother commuter experience.
The decision was approved during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Under the initiative, a “One App, One System” model—similar to the digital payment system currently used on national motorways—will be implemented at 38 toll plazas across Punjab.
Officials briefed the chief minister on ongoing development projects related to transportation, infrastructure, energy conservation, and urban beautification. Five major road projects were also approved under public-private partnerships, a move expected to accelerate delivery timelines while reducing government expenditure.
The meeting further revealed that the province had saved Rs. 40 billion through the adoption of e-tendering, reflecting improved transparency in public procurement.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also directed that solar streetlights be installed on all newly constructed roads to promote sustainability and reduce long-term operational costs.
In addition to infrastructure upgrades, several beautification projects were approved for Lahore, including:
- Installation of a fountain and a miniature train for children in the park near Lahore Railway Station
- Construction of new roads and footpaths within a three-kilometer radius of the station
It was also reported that 54 major bridges, 142 small bridges, and 858 roads damaged during recent floods have now been fully restored, with rehabilitation works completed in Murree, Chakwal, and Sahiwal.
The digitization of toll plazas marks a major step toward smart governance, efficient revenue collection, and hassle-free travel for millions of commuters across Punjab.
