Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched a significant initiative today in Balochistan, marking a milestone in the solarization of agricultural tube wells. The agreement, signed in Quetta between the Federal and Balochistan governments, aims to convert approximately 28,000 tube wells from electricity to solar power. This ambitious project, totaling 55 billion rupees, reflects a joint effort with the Federal Government funding seventy percent, and the remainder covered by Balochistan.
Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has committed to completing the solarization within three months. This initiative is expected to bring substantial savings of around 90 billion rupees annually and ensure uninterrupted water supply to Balochistan’s farmers, crucial for enhancing agricultural productivity in the region.
Looking beyond Balochistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted plans to extend solarization efforts to one million agricultural tube wells across the country. This nationwide initiative aims to reduce the annual expenditure of 3.5 billion dollars currently spent on imported fuel, contributing significantly to Pakistan’s energy sustainability goals.
Emphasizing collaborative development efforts, the Prime Minister announced educational quotas aimed at empowering Balochistan’s youth. This includes opportunities for professional training in agriculture and Information Technology (IT) sectors through partnerships with China. Funds have also been allocated for the establishment of Danish Schools in Balochistan, underscoring ongoing efforts to improve educational infrastructure and access in the province.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed confidence in the proactive role of Governor Balochistan Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, and the provincial cabinet in driving development and prosperity in Balochistan. He reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting Balochistan’s growth trajectory and pledged to take further steps towards enhancing the province’s development and prosperity.
