The country’s shining shooter Kishmala Talat received a high ranking as she was declared to be Asia’s second-best female shooter in the 10m air pistol category, according to the Asian Shooting Confederation’s latest annual rankings. With 1,350 points, she trails India’s Esha Singh, who leads with 1,500 points. Besides the category, the achievement was well marked when she also ranked 29th in the women’s 25m pistol event, showing that she was versatile in shooting diverse skills across multiple shooting disciplines.
Talat thanked them for the honour bestowed upon her and said that all was due to divine blessings and support from her mentors and fans. She looks forward to furthering her performance and seeking even greater milestones in the following year.
Most importantly, Talat has entered the record books as the first ever female Pakistani shooter to get a direct qualification berth in the 2024 Paris Olympics. That it is a moment of immense pride not only for the individual but also for Pakistani sports people cannot be overlooked. Her Olympic preparation was further supported by an International Olympic Committee scholarship, as part of a program to uplift top athletes from Pakistan.
Other Pakistani shooters, such as Ghulam Joseph and GM Bashir, are also making their ways through the ranks. This is an emerging strength for Pakistan in competitive shooting.
