In a remarkable achievement, the Pakistani team clinched two bronze medals at the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) held in Astana, Kazakhstan, from July 7–14. Ms. Zoha Asif from Nixor College, Karachi, and Mr. Soban Safdar from FFC Grammar School, Mirpur Mathelo, were the proud recipients of the bronze medals for Pakistan at IBO 2024.
The Pakistan team participated in the Olympiad under the sponsorship of the STEM Careers program, a collaborative effort of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Science (PIEAS). According to PIEAS, the biology team was trained by Dr. Asma Imran and Dr. Amir Ali from the National Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE) in Faisalabad, a constituent college of PIEAS University, Islamabad.
PIEAS manages the STEM Careers program, aiming to provide a supportive platform that encourages student engagement in STEM fields and prepares participants for future challenges and opportunities. The program includes the National Science Talent Contest (NSTC), which identifies and trains students for participation in the International Science Olympiads (ISOs), prestigious competitions for young students across physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics.
