Himalayan pink salt, primarily originating from Pakistan, is a featured product at the CIIE this year. Pakistan boasts one of the world’s largest salt deposits, spanning over 209 kilometers in regions between the eastern district of Jhelum and the northwestern Kohat district.
Notably, Pakistan is home to the second-largest salt mine globally, the Khewra Salt Mine in Jhelum.
According to information from the Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation, Pakistan’s annual salt exports amount to approximately 400,000 tons.
To protect its indigenous products from unauthorized use by other nations, Pakistan has announced its intention to register its pink salt as a Geographical Indication (GI).
Statistics from the General Administration of Customs of China reveal that Pakistani Himalayan pink salt exports to China reached $4,968,223 in 2021 and $5,747,492 in 2022, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 15.68 percent.
This data demonstrates the growing market and promising outlook for pink salt exports to China.
In the first half of this year, exports of Pakistani Himalayan pink salt to China amounted to $2,694,493, which is a slight decrease of 5 percent compared to the same period last year when it stood at $2,839,582.
