Pakistan’s junior squash talent, Huzaifa Ibrahim, has secured a spot in the Under-19 final at the 2023 United States Junior Open Squash Championships in Philadelphia. After defeating Dutch player Guido Lindner in the pre-quarterfinals and facing Colombia’s Juan Irisarri in the quarterfinals, Ibrahim is set to compete against USA’s top-ranked Rishi Srivastava in the final scheduled for 20 December 2023 at 11 AM (Pakistan time).
Rishi Srivastava, the current U-19 top-ranked squash player, poses a formidable challenge for Ibrahim. Meanwhile, Hamza Ibrahim has earned recognition as the sole Pakistani member of the 2023 All-American Team by the US Squash Racquets Association. Huzaifa Ibrahim, looking to emulate the success of his senior, Hamza Khan, who clinched the title in 2021 and holds the current World Junior Squash Champion title, aims to continue the legacy by potentially securing victories in both U-15 and U-19 categories.
It’s worth noting that only three Pakistani players participated in the US Junior Open this year, with Saboor Khan, a compatriot of Ibrahim, exiting in the second round in the same category. Huzaifa Ibrahim’s performance reflects the ongoing prowess of Pakistani squash players on the international stage.
