On Wednesday, the federal cabinet endorsed three groundbreaking initiatives for Pakistan’s IT and telecom sector, notably introducing the nation’s inaugural National Space Policy.
This policy is poised to transform Pakistan’s space program, creating opportunities for private-sector firms to deliver cost-effective internet services. Beyond technological progress, it is expected to stimulate higher investments in the burgeoning space industry.
National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency Unveiled:
In a significant move towards a more secure digital landscape, the federal cabinet greenlights the creation of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), dedicated to combating cybercrimes. Endowed with expertise and resources, NCCIA aims to play a pivotal role in preventing, investigating, and prosecuting cybercrimes across Pakistan, bolstering the nation’s digital infrastructure.
Telecom Tribunals:
In efforts to streamline legal processes and enhance efficiency, the cabinet approves the establishment of specialized Telecom Tribunals. This strategic decision is poised to expedite the resolution of court cases and disputes within the telecom sector, fostering the swift deployment of 5G spectrum and ensuring continuous progress in the industry.
Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, Dr. Umar Saif, lauds the cabinet’s decisions, recognizing the positive impact on the IT and telecom sector. The Prime Minister acknowledges collaborative efforts in crafting the country’s space policy, led by key institutions including the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, SUPARCO, and the Ministry of Defence.
