A day after setting a new record-qualifying win in the last over, Pakistan won the ODI series over Australia on 10 November 2024 in Perth by ending an Australian drought dating back to 2002. The win comes following Pakistan’s eight-wicket win in the third and final ODI against Australia, thus concluding the series with a victory at 2-1. Results were also positive among the bowlers, including Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf. Afridi and Naseem accounted for three wickets each, whereas Rauf’s economy of 2-24 runs played a very crucial role as Australia got bowled out for a mere 140 in 31.5 overs
This small target after this, Pakistan openers Saim Ayub (42) and Abdullah Shafique (37) first batted their way into rebuilding as they added 84 runs together. Despite two fast dismissals by Australia’s Lance Morris, composed batting by skipper Mohammad Rizwan, who remained not out at 30, and Babar Azam, who is not out at 38, took Pakistan to a win with 143 in 26.5 overs. Haris Rauf won both Man of the Match and Man of the Series in the series as a testament to the team’s resilience in light of recent failure
In the post-match ceremony, Rizwan earmarked importance in this win to Pakistan for his fans and praised all the batsmen and bowlers for the efforts they put forward together. The success of this series also marks a promising beginning for Pakistan, under the tutelage of new coach Jason Gillespie, in gaining momentum ahead of what is set to be another T20 series against Australia, this time at the Gabba.
