Pakistan Railways plans to gradually switch all of its stations’ power networks—including major train stops, offices, workshops, and factories—to solar electricity. It is anticipated that the department will save billions of rupees as a result of this approach.
According to a Ministry of Railways official who spoke with APP, the effort is expected to save the department Rs. 1.8 billion in the first year. Additional stations, offices, and facilities will be added in later phases. Pakistan Railways intends to convert about 99 formations, which include nine divisional headquarters, major railway stations, and other key offices, to solar energy in the first phase.
According to the official, Pakistan Railways plans to transition its network to solar power by utilizing the skills of National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK). To lessen the financial burden on Pakistan Railways, the department has decided to switch the railway network to solar power.
He claimed that the decision to switch to solar energy is a calculated move meant to lessen Pakistan Railways’ financial load, as the company has been having financial issues.
