Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PSX: PPL) has achieved a significant gas and condensate discovery with its exploration well, Jhim East X-1, in Block 2467-16 (Shah Bandar), situated in District Sujawal, Sindh. This marks the second discovery in the Shah Bandar Block.
Operated by the company with a 63 percent working interest, the exploration license for Block 2467-16 (Shah Bandar) also involves Joint Venture Partners Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) with a 32 percent working interest, and Sindh Energy Holding Company Limited (SEHCL) and Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) with 2.5 percent working interest each.
Drilled to a depth of 2,545 meters, the Jhim East X-1 well aimed to assess the hydrocarbon potential of the Upper Sand of the Lower Goru Formation. The results indicated the presence of potential hydrocarbon-bearing zones. During testing of Lower Goru Upper Sand (A Sand), the well demonstrated a flow of 13.69 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day of gas and 236 Barrels per Day of condensate at a Wellhead Flowing Pressure (WHFP) of 2,668 psig at 32/64″ choke.
The ongoing evaluation of the well aims to gather essential information about its performance. This indigenous expertise-driven discovery is expected to contribute to hydrocarbon reserves, address the energy sector’s supply-demand gap, and alleviate the current energy crisis in Pakistan, thereby saving significant foreign exchange for the country.
