The Pakistan national football team has made a significant leap in the FIFA rankings, now occupying the 193rd position. This progress follows their historic victory against Cambodia, marking a remarkable achievement for the team.
Over the past few months, Pakistan has steadily improved, moving up 8 positions in the rankings since July when they were at the 201st spot, and further advancing to 197th in the September rankings.
Notably, Pakistan secured a 1-0 win against Cambodia, marking their first-ever victory in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers history. This historic match took place in Islamabad on October 17, with Harun Hamid scoring the winning goal for Pakistan in the 67th minute.
In the previous leg of the match, the two teams played to a goalless draw. Star forward Otis Khan was absent in the second leg due to FIFA not granting him clearance to participate, despite holding a Pakistani passport.
Khan’s eligibility had been based on his paternal grandfather, Kanwar Jamil Mohammed Khan, who was born in Delhi but moved to Pakistan after the 1947 partition and settled in Manchester.
