The university is ranked 353rd in the QS University Rankings and 64th in Asia, according to QS, having been gradually increasing its presence on this list in the past few years, having reached 9 in 2021, 23 in 2022, and 31 in 2023.

This ranking for the past several years reveals that 23 of the identified NUST researchers had been featured; this ensures continuous contributions are made on topics like biomedical research, materials science, computer science, and humanities.
