Rawalpindi is set to introduce a new bus service, enhancing public transportation options for residents across both public and private routes. The Punjab Mass Transit Authority is overseeing the launch of an integrated public transport system, featuring 78 minibusses (8 meters long) in two project phases.
In the initial phase, these minibusses will cover 34 routes within the city, ensuring comfortable and affordable travel.
Crucially, the upcoming bus service will align its timings and fares with the established Metro Bus Service, providing a seamless experience for commuters. The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Secretary, Arshad Ali, shared that the buses would be sourced from China and other countries. Furthermore, all buses will be integrated with metro stations, functioning as feeder buses to enhance connectivity.
The first phase of the project is slated for launch in the coming days, marking a significant development in Rawalpindi’s public transportation infrastructure. Arshad Ali also highlighted a route adjustment in the Rawalpindi Integrated Transport System, now extending from Kachehri Chowk to Rawat vegetable and fruit market, demonstrating adaptability to optimize service efficiency.
The introduction of this bus service is poised to elevate the commuting experience for Rawalpindi residents, offering a reliable and convenient mode of transport across various city routes.
