The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched a major digital reform with the introduction of the Personalized Registration Mark (PRM) System, allowing citizens to own and retain their vehicle registration numbers just like a CNIC or mobile number.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi inaugurated the new system on Wednesday, calling it a step toward transparency, digital governance, and safer roads.
Under the new mechanism, citizens will keep their registration number even after selling their vehicle, while the buyer will receive a new one. The original owner can also retain the number for up to three years without attaching it to any vehicle. Officials said this system will help eliminate fake plates, cloning, and illegal vehicle use, making the process faster and corruption-free.
The chief minister also directed the Excise Department to introduce online registration for further convenience.
During the ceremony, Afridi announced a martyrs’ package for Excise personnel in recognition of their anti-narcotics efforts and reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance policy against drugs, urging authorities to target major operators behind the trade.
