The Sindh government has finalized a comprehensive plan to repair and rehabilitate over 550 roads damaged by recent heavy rainfall in Karachi, following a city-wide survey of affected infrastructure.
Under the plan, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will repair 106 roads, while the provincial government will rehabilitate another 453 roads across various districts of the metropolitan city. A total budget of Rs25 billion has been allocated for the initiative.
The repair and rehabilitation work will be executed under the World Bank–funded Local Government Department’s Competitive and Livable City of Karachi (CLICK) project, aimed at improving urban infrastructure and livability.
According to a spokesperson for Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi, a recent high-level meeting reviewed progress on the road repair program and finalized district-wise implementation plans. Authorities confirmed that work on the damaged roads will commence shortly.
District-wise details of the repair program include 138 roads in District East, 50 in District Central, 27 in District South, 15 in Korangi, 93 in Malir, and 27 in District Kemari.
In addition to road rehabilitation, officials assessed the condition of traffic signals along major corridors, including I.I. Chundrigar Road and Mauripur Road. The meeting approved plans for the beautification of both roads to enhance their visual appeal and functional efficiency.
As part of broader traffic infrastructure improvements, the Transport Department will upgrade 45 existing traffic signals and install 31 new ones across Karachi.
