Karachi’s transportation scene is set for a major upgrade as Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that all ride-hailing services in the city, including Careem and Yango, will soon be governed by a single regulatory framework. This move aims to improve safety, standardize services, and ensure all platforms follow the same legal guidelines.
A Single System for Easier Regulation
The new unified system will make it easier to manage and monitor ride-hailing services, ensuring that they meet safety and operational standards. By bringing all services under one umbrella, the government hopes to streamline operations and reduce any inconsistencies across the platforms.
Moving Toward Sustainability
Alongside these regulatory changes, the Sindh government is also introducing electric vehicle (EV) taxis. This eco-friendly step is expected to lower carbon emissions and provide a greener alternative for commuters in Karachi.
Supporting Women’s Mobility
As part of the initiative, pink electric motorcycles will be introduced specifically for women. These motorcycles aim to offer safe, affordable, and reliable transportation, addressing the mobility challenges faced by women in the city.
Improving Public Transport
To further support the shift in transportation, the government is also investing in new public transport infrastructure. This includes adding more buses, including double-decker models, to cater to Karachi’s growing population and improve the overall public transport experience.
With these changes, Karachi is poised to transform its transport system into a safer, more sustainable, and inclusive one for all its residents.
