Pakistan’s interim religious affairs minister, Aneeq Ahmed, has revealed the extension of the Makkah Route Initiative from Islamabad to Karachi for Hajj pilgrims in the upcoming year. This initiative streamlines the immigration process for pilgrims at their home country’s airports.
Ahmed made this announcement at the launch of a bankers’ training program for the 2024 Hajj portal, emphasizing the government’s commitment to expand the Makkah Route program to major airports nationwide.
To enhance the Hajj experience, the government is in talks with airlines to reduce airfare and plans to introduce a dedicated smartphone app for pilgrims. Tent space in the Old Mina area has been secured, and a fleet of buses will provide transportation services. Female pilgrims will receive QR code-marked suitcases and Hajj articles, including headscarves adorned with the national flag.
In a bid to make Hajj more affordable, the government has lowered the cost to PKR 1,075,000 for the next year from PKR 1,175,000 in 2023. The application period for Hajj 2024 is set from November 27 to December 12. The comprehensive measures aim to ensure a smoother and more accessible pilgrimage for individuals from various regions of Pakistan.
