In a major boost to healthcare access, free Outpatient Department (OPD) services have been initiated in four districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa under the Sehat Insaf Card program. Financially supported by the German development agency KFW, this initiative aims to improve healthcare for residents in Mardan, Kohat, Malakand, and Chitral by providing cost-free outpatient care.
Pilot Program Starts in Mardan
The pilot phase of the project has launched in Mardan, with plans to extend to the other three districts in coming months. Health Department officials have confirmed that the project, with a financial backing of €4.9 million, will allow thousands of patients to access essential healthcare without financial strain.
Expanding Healthcare Access in KPK
This healthcare initiative is expected to alleviate the burden on hospitals while expanding access to primary healthcare services. By covering outpatient care under the Sehat Insaf Card, residents of these districts will receive immediate and continuous healthcare support, addressing a critical gap in outpatient services.
Sehat Insaf Card’s Growing Reach
The Sehat Insaf Card has already been instrumental in providing free healthcare across KPK, and this new initiative underlines its potential to address broader healthcare needs. Health Department sources reveal that if the pilot proves successful, it could inspire similar expansions to further districts, making healthcare accessible to even more underserved populations.
