In a major boost to Multan’s urban sanitation, Japan has pledged ¥1.236 billion (around $9 million) to upgrade the city’s sewerage system. This grant is aimed at addressing long-standing sanitation issues and improving public health.
Addressing Sanitation Challenges in Multan
Multan has struggled with outdated sewerage infrastructure, often leading to flooding and road closures. With this new funding, advanced machinery, including jetting and suction machines, will be provided to the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to improve efficiency and prevent blockages.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
The grant was officially handed over at a ceremony in Islamabad, attended by Japanese and Pakistani officials. Japan’s Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, HONDA Taro, highlighted the importance of this collaboration in strengthening ties between the two nations.
Japan’s Ongoing Support to Pakistan
This latest initiative is part of Japan’s long-standing development aid to Pakistan, totaling over $11.7 billion since 1954, covering sectors such as health, education, and disaster prevention.
