An awareness meeting took place at Dr. Faisal Masood District Headquarters Hospital in Sargodha, featuring notable guests including Dr. Shabnam Basheer, Director General of the Punjab Thalassemia Program, and representatives from Sargodha University, Give Life Foundation, Shah Foundation, and Sargodha Medical College.
The meeting focused on strategies for the prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of thalassemia and other hereditary diseases. Dr. Shabnam Basheer emphasized the importance of awareness due to the complexity and high cost of treatment. Efforts are being made to make Sargodha a thalassemia-free city and to enhance treatment for affected children.
Dean of Sciences Dr. Amir Ali highlighted the university’s initiatives, including awareness programs and blood camps for thalassemia patients. Principal Dr. Waris Farooq stressed the role of education in combating hereditary diseases. Participants agreed to intensify the awareness campaign and broaden practical measures.
