Oman introduces new visa policy for cruise ship tourists
Oman has introduced a new visa policy targeting passengers and crew members of cruise ships arriving in the country, in an attempt to boost the tourism sector. Introduced by Lieutenant General Hassan bin Mohsen Al Shuraiqi, the new rules allow for the facilitation of the visa system to make it more alluring to visitors. This is according to Decision No. 132/2024, which outlines one of the major amendments to the country’s Foreigners’ Residence Law.
Free 10-Day Visa for Cruise Passengers and Crew
The newly amended policy includes a free-of-charge 10-day visit visa, which is meant only for passengers and crew at tourist ships. It may be issued upon request by the agent of the ship, provided entry to Oman must be within 30 days of its issuance. This move will definitely boost the number of tourists visiting Oman’s cultural and natural beauty.
One-Month Visa Option
Aside from the 10-day visa, the new regulations also introduce an option for a one-month visa, similarly available upon request by the tourist ship agent. Similar to the shorter visa, entry into Oman will have to take place within 30 days for tourists and crew alike for an extended period of time to see more of the Sultanate.
Simplified Amendments
It also provides for amendments to the provisions of the Foreigners’ Residence Law. The new regulations have replaced the previous visa arrangements and provided for the new free 10-day visit visa for cruise passengers. Some of the outdated visa sequences have also been removed in order for the new rules to come in step with Oman’s latest tourism initiative.
Encouraging Tourism in Oman
With such much more flexible and accessible visa options, Oman is trying to position itself as a prime destination for cruise ship tourism. The new initiative will further stimulate the local economy and encourage international visitors to be able to experience the beauty and heritage that the Sultanate offers.
