Pakistan’s Information Technology (IT) exports saw a substantial increase of 34% in July 2024, reaching $286 million. This significant growth surpasses the previous 12-month average of $269 million. The IT sector now accounts for 46% of the country’s total exports in the first month of the fiscal year 2025.
This surge in IT exports is primarily driven by favorable policy changes, such as the increase in the limit for special foreign currency accounts for exporters from 35% to 50%, and the stabilization of the Pakistani rupee. These measures have created an enabling environment for the IT sector to enhance its export performance.
Looking ahead, the IT sector is expected to exceed $3.5 billion in exports for the fiscal year 2025. The Ministry of IT, in partnership with the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) and with support from the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), is actively implementing initiatives to further boost IT exports.
