On Monday, the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) held two important meetings to address critical environmental issues in the federal capital. The meetings, led by DG Pak-EPA Farzana Altaf Shah and CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, focused on key concerns including the pollution of Rawal Dam and the enforcement of environmental regulations.
The discussions highlighted the urgent need to address pollution in Rawal Dam caused by solid waste and industrial effluents. Strategies were explored to restore the dam’s water quality and mitigate pollution sources. Another significant topic was the implementation of the single-use plastic ban in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT). Officials discussed methods to effectively enforce this ban and encourage sustainable alternatives.
Additionally, the meetings addressed illegal constructions in Zone 3 of Islamabad and the demolition of unauthorized structures. The aim was to find solutions to these issues and ensure adherence to the city’s master plan.
These meetings represent a crucial step in tackling Islamabad’s pressing environmental challenges. The collaborative efforts of the CDA and Pak-EPA are expected to lead to positive changes in the city’s ecosystem. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad and his administrative team. It was agreed that all agencies responsible for environmental protection, biodiversity, and resource management in Islamabad would work together to address these issues.
