The new Gwadar International Airport is set to become operational on August 14, with all necessary arrangements in place. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will conduct the soft launch of the airport. According to CAA sources, the project cost is Rs54.98 billion. Located 26 km north-east of the current Gwadar airport, the new airport covers 3,000 acres of land provided by the government of Pakistan. It is the second greenfield airport in the country, following the new Islamabad Airport.
The new Gwadar Airport will be capable of handling various aircraft, including ATR 72, Airbus A-300, Boeing B-737, and Boeing B-747, for both domestic and international routes. While 96% of the operational portion is completed, other developmental works are expected to be finished by December 2025. This new airport is anticipated to significantly enhance connectivity and economic growth in the region, marking a crucial development in Pakistan’s aviation sector.
